It’s Official! Electric Car Converts Goes Global

Classic Land Rovers are everywhere. You’ll find them in the mountains of Canada, out on game reserves in Africa, and rolling through Australia and New Zealand. And wherever they are, they all have one thing in common: engines long past their best.

Electric Car Converts was founded in Lewes, East Sussex, UK, born from a personal project by Barnaby Birkbeck. After facing persistent engine issues, Barnaby converted his 1980s Land Rover Defender to electric, an ambitious move that quickly proved successful. That single transformation laid the foundation for what would become Electric Car Converts. Since then, it’s been exciting to see the company grow and thrive, turning classic vehicles into clean, modern machines.

For years, we focused on getting our UK conversions right; every bolt, every wire, every variation across different models. It took time. But now we have a proven system that works on every Classic Land Rover, from the earliest Series models to the more recent Defenders.

We are already seeing that effort pay off overseas. Several kits have already gone out and are being installed as you read this. What’s changing is that we’re now in a position to do it more intentionally, with the systems, experience, and confidence to support customers worldwide. We now have a facility in Miami, Florida, alongside our HQ in the UK.

Global Demand with One Shared Problem

All Land Rover owners around the world face the same challenge: outdated engines that are inefficient and unreliable. The rest of the vehicle is built to endure, so it makes sense to preserve the body and update what lies beneath the bonnet.

We’ve already shipped our full electric kits to:

  • Canada
  • Portugal
  • South Africa
  • Kazakhstan
  • And several more are on the way to the United States.

All of this has happened naturally, no campaigns, no ads. Just word of mouth and results. People see the conversions we do and want the same for their vehicles.

A Kit That Fits

When you order a kit from us, you can either install it yourself or work with a local mechanic. Either way, you receive our support every step of the way.

We’ve already converted every Series and Defender type, so we know exactly what each model needs. Each element beneath the bonnet is carefully planned to ensure the kit aligns precisely with your Land Rover.

Once complete, we pack it into three large crates and ship it directly to you. It bolts in, plugs in, and, with proper preparation, can be installed in about a week.

Built for All Climates

Because our kits are designed to withstand temperatures ranging from -10°C to 45°C, they will function dependably in most climates. To keep your Land Rover operating efficiently, we incorporate air conditioning systems for warmer regions and install high-voltage heating for colder ones.

Since our systems are made to fit your car in your location, you can be confident they’ll perform as expected under everyday conditions.

Our US Workshop

The United States comes with its complications, import duties, insurance, contracts, and more. On top of that, we can’t send a kit for a customer to install themselves due to liability.

To solve this, we’ve opened our own US facility in Miami. US-based customers can now order their kit domestically and have it installed at our Miami location or through one of our trained partners across the country.

It also offers Land Rover owners a strong alternative to the LS swap, a common modification involving the fitting of a Corvette engine. That swap is loud, expensive, and outdated. Our electric system delivers more torque, better efficiency, and a much smoother driving experience.

Next Stop…Anywhere!

We can now deliver Classic Land Rover electric conversion kits worldwide. With years of experience and unmatched technical knowledge, we’ve taken the guesswork out of international orders.

Whether you’re on the coast of Portugal, the plains of South Africa, or the forests of Canada, we can help you keep your Classic Land Rover on the road, fully electric and ready for the future.
